Annual core inflation in the UK rose to 3.8% in July 2025 from 3.7% in June, in line with market expectations and the highest since April. The increase was driven by more significant growth in prices for goods (2.7% vs. 2.4% in June) and services (5.0% vs. 4.7%). On a monthly basis, core consumer prices rose 0.2%, slightly above expectations of 0.1% but less than June’s 0.4% growth.

On Wednesday, the Japanese yen strengthened to around 147.5 per dollar, continuing the rise that began in the previous session, despite disappointing trade data. Exports fell by 2.6% year-on-year in July, the sharpest decline in more than four years, as broad US tariffs hit overseas demand. Imports also fell by 7.5%, the fourth decline this year, but performed better than expectations, which had predicted a 10.4% drop. In addition, data showed that core orders for machinery and equipment in Japan, a leading indicator of capital investment, rose unexpectedly in June after two months of decline. On the policy front, markets remain divided over the Bank of Japan’s next moves amid mixed signals from officials.

On Wednesday, the price of gold fell to $3,310 per ounce, approaching a three-week low, as prospects for easing geopolitical tensions and a rising US dollar weighed on the metal ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s symposium in Jackson Hole. On Tuesday, US President Trump said he would not send ground troops to Ukraine, but left open the possibility of providing air support as part of efforts to resolve the conflict with Russia. Meanwhile, all eyes are on Fed Chair Powell’s upcoming speech at the Jackson Hole symposium, where he will ask for guidance on the future direction of Central Bank policy. The minutes of the recent FOMC meeting are also expected to be released today, which will provide additional insight. Currently, market prices indicate two 25 bps rate cuts this year, with the first potentially occurring in September.

Sales can be considered from the upper border of the wedge or from the EMA lines, but with confirmation. It is worth returning to buy deals when the price consolidates above the wedge.
